Sallie Hughes是美國邁阿密大學傳播學系的助理教授，前陣子出了一本叫做⟪ Newsrooms in Conflict：Journalism and the Democratization of Mexico⟫的書，在談墨西哥近年來的新聞媒體民主化過程，廣受好評。

一份當地的報紙為這本書下了這樣的註解：

Hughes gives a name to the new autonomous, assertive and politically diverse Mexican journalism that has taken over (though not completely) from the authoritarian model that dominated for most of the 20th century - "civic journalism." It has the potential, she writes, "to enhance civic participation and government accountability to citizens, (which are) the civic objectives expressed by its principal practitioners."

由Reforma News Group辦的Reforma集團經已成為全墨西哥最出名的報章，原因是他們敢作敢為的報道風格，特別是針對政府貪污的醜聞。然而，Reforma的運作 離不開資本主義市場經營的邏輯，即inmedia一直討論ohmynews時提到的商業模式。可是，最諷刺的是墨西哥的市場基本上並不自由，改革者集團之 所以發展神速，很大情況上跟政府的政策有關。
