不知道其他家媒體公司會不會開始把add to Newsvine的按鈕從新聞頁面上拿下來？

Couple interesting things to note here. This is MSNBC.com's first acquisition in its 11-year history (it's a joint venture of Microsoft and NBC). Second, this appears to be a great way for MSNBC.com to get a shot in the arm from Newsvine's extensive experience in the user-generated content and social news space.

What is MSNBC getting, other than a slick and feature-packed website? Newsvine is also a thriving Citizen Journalism community, with solid stats. In our July review of Newsvine, we noted that Newsvine gets about 1.2 million unique visitors per month and it has grown at an average rate of 46% per quarter. Newsvine community members view an average of 21 pages per day and spend an average of 143 minutes per month on the site. The site gets about 80,000 comments a month and 250,000 votes a month.

Why would a young, efficient independent news startup become part of a large organization? For us, the answer is simple: it's all about growing the community and spreading the idea of participatory news as far and wide as possible.

Now we need to see the experiment taken to a more logical conclusion, because Newsvine and its competitors are getting only part of this right — and a company with deep pockets could take it further.
