首先祝大家聖誕快樂，在這個特別的日子裡，有一件特別的事情等著我們去做：

在伊朗，有一對外科醫生兄弟Kamira 與 Arash Alaie被伊朗警方逮捕，未經審判就關進牢裡，到今天已經超過六個月。他們在被關進牢裡頭之前，積極的在伊朗乃至於整個中東進行推廣教育，降低吸毒者、性工作者、以及監獄犯人被愛滋感染的機率。

Clint Trout，這對兄弟的好友，在FACEBOOK上發起了串連活動，希望支持者能夠做下列三件事情：

1. 列印一張上頭有「Treating AIDS Is Not a Crime: Free Kamiar and Arash Alaei」字樣的紙，並與這張紙照一張相。

2. 參與連署。

3. 鼓勵其他人跟你一起做。

所以我就這麼做了，而且還悠閒地一邊做一邊吃橘子。不過我沒有印表機，只能做一張大圖放在螢幕上代替。希望你能一起共襄盛舉，除了Free Hugs能溫暖人心，積極的做點本分能做的事情也會讓你內心暖暖的。

這麼做有用嗎？是的，的確有用。伊朗官方很在乎國際觀感，只要伊朗政府知道國際上有人在乎這件事、這些人，就算他們不會立即獲釋，在牢裡的境遇也會改善。所以你的參與對這兩兄弟來說非常重要。

We, the undersigned health professionals, HIV/AIDS advocates, and concerned individuals, call on the Islamic Republic of Iran to either immediately charge or release Dr. Kamiar Alaei and Dr. Arash Alaei - two brothers internationally known for their work on HIV/AIDS - who were detained without charge by Iranian security forces in late June 2008. Their whereabouts remain unknown.

The Alaei brothers have been leaders in addressing problems relating to drug use, with a focus on the spread of HIV/AIDS. They have played a key role in putting these issues on Iran's national health care agenda. They have worked closely with government and religious leaders to ensure support for education campaigns on HIV transmission, including those targeting youth, and for HIV and harm reduction programs in prisons. They have also worked to share their expertise with neighboring countries by holding training workshops for Afghan and Tajik health professionals.

Dr. Kamiar Alaei is a doctoral candidate at the SUNY Albany School of Public Health in Albany, New York. Dr. Arash Alaei is a former Director of the International Education and Research Cooperation of the Iranian National Research Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. Neither of the men is known to have any involvement in political activities.

Therefore, we urge the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran either to charge these physicians and provide them with access to counsel and family, or release them immediately so that they can continue their important medical and public health work for the betterment of the people of Iran and the world.
